Jim Maxwell is a sports commentator for the ABC, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and is perhaps best known in the UK for his coverage of the Ashes, One Day Internationals and the Cricket World Cup. Maxwell is also an editor and the author of other books. 'The Sound of Summer' is his autobiography and reveals through a series a anecdotes and real life experience the true extent of his broadcasting career which has introduced him to a vast array of players, coaches and other assorted dignitaries across the globe. The book is written in a style that's as witty and warm as his broadcasting voice, I particularly enjoyed his post match interviews on the BBC during Test Match Special, and yet leaves you in no doubt that this a man who understands and loves his chosen sport. I thought this was a great read which is in parts both funny and sad but always knowledgeable. Recommended to all fans of cricket. Really enjoyed the read.
